About Prof. Dr. Elvira Bratila
Elvira Bratila, MD, PhD – Ob-Gyn Senior Specialist – is a Professor of Obstetrics-Gynecology with “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest.
The physician reunites the professional abilities and the surgeon’s expertise, with the application and dedication to mentoring the future generation of physicians. By opening new horizons of knowledge in various fields and areas of competence, the professional activity of Professor Elvira Bratila reunites the whole spectrum of surgical techniques, from classical vaginal surgery to minimally invasive surgery.
Since 2017 she has approached robotic surgery, the most advanced minimally invasive technique, being the first surgeon who introduced the robotic surgery in the genital sphere, by aid of the da Vinci robotic platform. As the promoter of this state-of-the-art technique, she organises training courses in this type of surgery for specialists in Romania.
Professor Elvira Bratila is a pioneer in the gynaecology field, addressing some innovative surgical techniques – minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotic surgery – in more than 95% of the surgical interventions reserved to gynaecological oncology, and respectively, the treatment of genital cancers, in the surgery of endometriosis and other complex urogynaecological pathologies.
In point of treatment of the cervical cancer, she is the first surgeon in Romania who carried out pelvic lymphadenectomy followed by trachelectomy – excision of the cervix with the surrounding tissue – exclusively by a minimally invasive intervention. The physician did the conservative surgery of cervical cancer as early as the year 2006, at that time she intervened vaginally, with laparoscopic lymphadenectomy. Since 2014, the surgeon has done this intervention entirely laparoscopic. Since 2017, along with the introduction of robotic surgery by aid of the da Vinci Xi platform, the surgeon opened a new way: the conservative surgery of cervical cancer carried out robotically, facilitated by the technique of sentinel lymph node. This technique grants predictability to the surgical gesture, a balancing solution between the conservative target, to preserve fertility, and the radical target, to remove extensive tumours, within the limits imposed by the treatment/indication with oncological visa.
Although it is not a neoplastic disease, endometriosis is a complex pathology affecting all sides of life – professional, family, social – of women of all ages. Professor Elvira Bratila has dedicated her efforts to this pathology, and has become a reference name in the field and a public voice for these patients in Romania.
In her capacity of founding member of the East-European Society for Endometriosis and Fertility, the physician created a new concept in the endometriosis surgery: Endomedicare Academy, the first endometriosis academy in Romania, a multidisciplinary ecosystem of medical expertise and opinion ultraspecialised in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery of endometriosis, also with a special interest in the area of scientific research of the disease ethiopathogenesis.
Endomedicare Academy proposes a higher level of expertise in the integrated, customised, and multidisciplinary approach of the disease – gynaecological surgeon, general surgeon, imaging specialist, pathologist, urologist, infertility specialist, psychologist – the medical team providing a 360° perspective over this pathology, which requires super specialisation in order to avoid serious complication and medium and long term effects for women of all ages, but especially for women of reproductive age, for which the preservation of fertility is desirable.
In her capacity of President of the Romanian Society of Urogynaecology, with a clinical experience of over 15 years in the field of urogynaecology and the knowledge accumulated from graduating more than 40 national and international courses, Professor Elvira Brătilă is one of the few gynaecological surgeons in Romania who carried out interventions in the field of urogynaecology, being the promoter in Romania of some complex interventions and innovative therapeutic procedures in the treatment of urinary incontinence and of uterovaginal prolapse.
Gynaecological aesthetics, a new start in Romania. Professor Elvira Brătilă is opening the door to knowledge in this field, as well. The physician carries out, with extreme accuracy and delicacy, the surgery of urogenital malformations, interventions for the reconstruction of the urogenital tract, restoration of a normal appearance of the vulva and of the vagina in case of malformations, after obstetrical trauma or specific pathology.
